Grow your career in automation with a global OEM! Great opportunity in the Schaumburg, IL area to work on custom machines and enjoy working in different industries! Our client is growing and looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer with a strong proficiency with SolidWorks!

The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will design automatic assembly machines, from initial concept to design completion. Must have a thorough knowledge of design practices and tolerances, a basic understanding of electro-mechanical relationships, and a good grasp of machine functions and timing. You will interface with the project Lead engineer, controls engineer, builders, and others; and will be responsible for staying within the project's assigned budget and schedule.


Responsibilities:



  • Lead the development of a large multiple module system and engineering team.
  • Designs layouts, assemblies, schematics, and bills of materials to be used in producing custom machinery
  • Design cam, servo, and air operated stations, and to make changes to existing designs.
  • Ensure the design is functional, robust, and cost effective.
  • Innovate and use good judgment to incorporate standards, GAMP5 and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and specify appropriate materials and purchased components.
  • Create detail drawings, assembly drawings, Bill of Materials, organize release packages, and update drawings.
  • Participates in and leads internal and customer design reviews.
  • To prepare pneumatic and timing diagrams and select appropriate sensors.
  • Work with suppliers to find/develop the most functional and economical solutions to design issues.
  • Problem-solve design or detail issues and update all appropriate documentation.
  • Communicate ideas and comprehend information both verbally and in written form.
  • Identifies commercially available components, evaluates quality, and analyzes price and availability with regard to budget and schedule
  • Writes specifications and acceptance criteria for outsourced engineering work
  • Good knowledge of machine qualification methods; knowledge of SPC a plus
  • Follow all policy and procedures to maintain ISO13485 Certification requirements.
  • Prioritizes, plans, and organizes work and work space.
  • Writes specifications & acceptance criteria for large custom components (Key Items)
  • Set and maintain departmental goals in keeping with company objectives.
  • Provide necessary documentation and support for machinery Operating Manuals.
  • Make recommendations for quality and cost improvements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:


Education:



  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Engineering Technology, or, with lesser education, must possess and demonstrate very high level of automation experience

Experience:



  • 5 years’ experience minimum as a Mechanical Design Engineer, or equivalent, in assembly automation
  • 7 years’ experience minimum in custom automation machine design, debug, and qualification including lead position for complex projects
  • Fluent in the use of 3D CAD (SolidWorks); working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD is a plus
  • Good computer skills (spreadsheet and word processing)

Equipment:



  • Computers, including programs such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, Excel, Word, BBSC Automation databases, etc.
  • Inspection and measuring tools such as scales, calipers, micrometers, multi-meters, dB meters, etc.

 


Typical travel up to 10%.
