Senior Electrical/Instrumentation Engineer – Based in Charlotte, NC - travel across US & globe


Reporting to the Chief of Electrical and Instrumentation Engineering, provide designs of systems & equipment associated with the design & construction of Direct Reduction (DR) iron making plants & new technology initiatives. Target Sal $95 - 115K + Benes


Primary Duties and Responsibilities



  • Perform designs and systems analyses through calculations basic to E/I Engineering.
  • Sketch conceptual designs, transferring ideas to the designers for development of E/I drawings
  • Coordination E/I design effort acting as Lead E/I Engineering for a particular project by:

    1. directing the efforts of assigned engineers/designers for E/I system design reqs;
    2. checking drawings, calculations, sketches, etc. for the project;
    3. developing specifications/requisitions for support of purchasing effort;
    4. reviewing/approving purchasing quotations, vendor drawings and QA documents.


  • Support Purchasing technically with review of vendor submittals and on-site inspections of equipment; Analyze equipment for current technology.
  • Provide direction and technical support for engineers and designers.
  • Check drawings and drafting for adherence to designs.
  • Review designs and assist Senior Engineers and Management by making suggestions to improve an existing or proposed design relative to its function.
  • Travel to job sites to analyze equipment, collect data and information, interact with plant personnel and gain experience valuable to design considerations (i.e. Operating conditions, temperature considerations, etc.)
  • Travel on business trips and/or field assignments as required to carry out departmental tasks and function.
  • Write technical specifications for equipment design, fabrication, procurement, etc.
  • Work as a team player with all company departments and employees in all assignments. Work towards building consensus in assignments by finding solutions which meet the best interests of all parties involved.

Required Education -  BS Electrical/Instrumentation Engineering Degree.


Min 5-10 years hands on instrumentation experience in a technical environment, preferably related to the steel industry. Knowledge of and experience with personal computer hardware/software related to process controls, projects and equipment performance.


Willingness to travel domestically and internationally, occasionally for long periods of time. Ability to move around project sites including climbing structures. Excellent writing and interpersonal communications skills. Ability to meet schedule deadlines.
