Summary/Objective:


Seeking qualified candidates with 5+ years of Engineering/Utility Industry experience related to the design and construction of electrical distribution and substations. Experience with design, programming, installation, commissioning, and operations of utility (electric) scale SCADA and Automation systems is required for this position.


Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Design, test, and commission distribution system SCADA architecture to include multiple substations, switching stations, reclosers, and voltage regulators.
  • Program, configure, and test protective relay SCADA points, communication protocols, and port settings.
  • Program and configure SEL real-time automation controllers (RTACs), communication processors, and managed Ethernet switches for SCADA network.
  • Program and configure master SCADA system to include SCADA software, mainframe SCADA computers, including the design and installation of operating systems, Human Machine Interface (HMI) software, updates, control programming, and displays.
  • Configure local area networks (LANs) and design/configure subnets, routers, bridges, and switches.
  • Design and install firewalls, Virtual Private Network (VPN) and internet access for the field and on-call operators.
  • Design and install various security systems for the SCADA.
  • Design, test, install and maintain radio communication equipment; program the radio for correct frequency; test and align radio signals; and troubleshoot communication problems.
  • Perform site surveys for major upgrade projects, develop concept design, and present the design to management and the customer.
  • Prepare SCADA cost estimates for large-scale electric distribution and substation projects.
  • Keep up-to-date with utility industry standards and codes. Enforce and maintain all applicable standards and codes for our O&M, replacement/renewal and new installations.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of SCADA for electrical distribution system.
  • Develop specifications for major SCADA components.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance and support to help them grow in their professional career.

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, & Experience:



  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) degree from accredited university with emphasis in automation and/or communication systems. Master of Science in Electrical Engineering (MSEE) degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years working experience in electrical utility SCADA and distribution automation design and commissioning. Experience with Survalent SCADA platform is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of medium voltage electrical substations and distribution system.
  • Working knowledge of power system components.
  • Experienced in blueprints, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time/cost/labor estimates for projects and services.
  • Must have excellent analytical, organizational, verbal, written, and communication skills.
  • Must be a team player and be able to work with various partners from start to finish.

Travel:



  • Up to 20-30% out-of-the-area and overnight travel will be expected.

Work Authorization/Security Clearance



  • You must be authorized to work in the US without sponsorship. 
  • Military Base Access is required for this position.
  • Valid Driver’s License Required.
