GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Perform medical laboratory tests for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases in the areas of hematology, chemistry, immunology, microbiology and urinalysis. Monitor the laboratory quality control data. Assume responsibilities of the Laboratory Manager when absence.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Reports directly to the Laboratory Manager and Laboratory Director.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires full range of body motion and frequent standing and walking short distances. Requires good eye-hand coordination and finger dexterity in both hands. Requires vision that is correctable to 20/20 with normal color perception. Requires the ability to hear alarms, instrument/analyzer audible alerts and telephone communications. Requires the ability to effectively communicate both orally and written. Requires the ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, pathogenic bacteria and toxic substances, i.e. acids & bases.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This list is not inclusive)

  1. Perform technical laboratory functions, including quality controls, in chemistry, hematology, immunology, microbiology and urinalysis.

  2. Perform daily, weekly, monthly and unscheduled instrument maintenance in all areas of the laboratory.

  3. Accurately interpret and report laboratory results or values.

  4. Perform Lab Manager duties & responsibilities as assigned.

  5. Comply with all laboratory policies and OSHA regulations related to safety and

    infection control.

  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  1. Knowledge of a wide variety of clinical laboratory procedures, instrumentations and


  2. Knowledge of quality control procedures and documentation.

  3. Skill in performing a wide range of laboratory procedures.

  4. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with physicians,

    supervisors and office staff.

  5. Skill in identifying and resolving technical problems.

  6. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  7. Ability to follow written protocols.




  1. Follows State, CLIA, and OSHA regulatory requirements

  2. Follows compliance requirements pertaining to collection and handling of laboratory

    specimens including, but not exclusive of, collection, temperature, containers and

    proper disposal of biohazard materials.

  3. Follows guidelines for maintaining patient confidentiality.

  4. Demonstratesastrongcommitmenttohonestandresponsiblecorporateconduct.

  5. Identifies, reports and/or prevents any fraudulent or unethical behavior.

HIPAA-Minimum Necessary Access to PHI

The responsibilities associated with this position allow access to the computer “role” of Nurse only.

We are committed to enforcing minimum necessary access to our patients’ PHI by limiting the uses and disclosures of this information within our practice. In order for this employee to carry out his/her job (carry out TPO) in a manner that best serves our patients, the employee needs access to the afore mentioned computer “role”. Roledescriptions are explicitly defined in our HIPAA manual. Access to computer information is password protected. Upon termination of an employee, his/her password will be deleted from the system.


Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Medical Technology or related field.


ASCP(or equivalent) as a Medical Technologist.


Five years experience as a MT preferred.
