Experienced Mechanical Design Project Lead needed in Greenville, SC for growing Custom Machine and Automation company catering to multiple industries. Design and supervise mechanical design efforts and delegate tasks to mechanical design team.

Responsibilities:


  • Supervise the mechanical design effort on various projects delegating tasks to a team of people.
  • Supervise drafts persons and designers on various projects, both internal and external
  • Perform as the leader in working with other members of the mechanical design project team, department and other groups to continuously improve methods of integrating design technology, with the goals being enhanced safety, enhanced functionality, and reduced cost.
  • Perform as the leader in working with other members of the mechanical design project team, department and other groups to ensure that mechanical design labor budgets, material budgets, and schedules are adhered to or improved upon.
  • Participate with the Project Manager in the development of the project schedule and budgeted hours distribution.
  • Deliver mechanical designs that are on schedule, on budget and meet all customer requirements.
  • Apply working knowledge of common machine shop techniques. Competent drafts-person.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD package
  • Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  • Knowledge of the use of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT’s, etc.)
  • Will assist in developing design and department standards.


Requirements:

  • BS degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Six years’ hands-on experience as a designer, working with multi-disciplined project teams preferred, preferably in an automation or systems integration environment. A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with no supervision. Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and written. Hands-on experience with robotics and machine operation preferred.
  • Experience in the assembly of special purpose machines, automation or robotics.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent 3D CAD package
  • Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts.
  • Knowledge of the use of pneumatics and hydraulics.
  • Knowledge of the use of electrical devices (i.e. switches, load cells, LVDT’s, etc.)
  • An ability to work effectively with suppliers according to deadlines and under pressure-filled conditions is essential.
  • Willingness to travel, up to 15% per year
  • In addition, must be familiar with the use of MS Office and QuickBooks
