Job Summary of the Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Development:

Lead level Battery Pack Development Engineer is required to play a key role in development and execution of pack/module mechanical designs for Lithium-ion battery for one of our clients in the Michigan. This client is an industry leader in EV technologies and in this role you will be responsible for the development and execution of pack/module mechanical designs for Lithium-ion battery systems by providing leadership in mechanical design technical decisions and direction. If you have BEV/HEV/PHEV experience with mechanical design and validation expertise, then this position is well suited to you.

 

 

Responsibilities of the Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Development:


  • Manage and review the design of pack/module mechanical development programs for battery system and associated components by properly understanding customer requirements
  • Design and develop battery cell module system and components including cell retention, voltage/temperature sensing, cooling provisions, structural components, electrical isolation, thermal insulation, cell swelling and hold down provisions.
  • Design and develop battery pack system and components including module/pack components retention, LV/HV wiring, electrical components, cooling components, pack structural brackets, pack housings and layout studies.
  • Assist in developing proposals for new RFI/RFQs, including preparation of all Mechanical Technical design and analysis materials.
  • Lead mechanical design of pack/module battery systems to maintain project-level development timing.
  • Develop design to ensure serviceability, manufacturability, and other performance attributes for battery pack and modules.
  • Test, and validate module/pack systems used in advanced battery systems. Applications include Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEV), PHEV and BEV battery packs.
  • Develop product validation and verification plans at the component and battery pack assembly level. Assist in the development of comprehensive design verification and validation activities, including writing test procedures, environmental testing fixtures and data acquisition systems.
  • Develop and maintain core and application-specific engineering specifications.
  • Perform Technical Design Reviews with affiliated companies, customers and within company.
  • Lead the future innovation activities to promote and develop new evolutionary design changes to stay competitive in the industry.
  • Standardize mechanical system designs and components. Support product design and development activities along with preparation of 8D troubleshooting efforts on Mechanical Systems.
  • Perform all upfront CAE analysis to ensure design mechanical performance.
  • Support product design and development activities along with production troubleshooting efforts on mechanical systems.
  • Lead concept design for proposal of battery pack development with early requirements definition; translate customer performance requirements.
  • Work with mechanical and electrical technicians to build robust prototypes.


 

 

Qualifications of the Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Development:


  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering. Masters preferred
  • 4+ years of experience in mechanical design, validation and release of mechanical system components
  • MUST HAVE BEV/HEV/PHEV experience
  • 2 years of experience as a technical expert
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as Solidworks or CATIA
  • Statics, solid mechanics and CAE knowledge is a plus.


 

 

Compensation of the Lead Engineer - Battery Pack Development:
Salary Range:  $120,000-130,000/ year, depending on experience 


Location: Troy, MI
Type:  Direct
Travel: As and when required.
