Job Summary of the Design Release Engineer:

Design Release Engineer is required to play a key role in developing and executing pack/module/thermal design/development for Lithium-ion battery systems and pack/module/thermal components for one of our best clients in the Michigan. This client is an industry leader in EV technologies and in this role you will be responsible for the development of the datum and locating scheme for pack/module components and lead the development of the pack/module DFMEA. If you have strong experience with complex automotive systems such as classic powertrain, electric powertrain, and/or chassis, along with a background with CAD tools (Unigraphics or CATIA) and the part release process, then this position is well suited to you.



Responsibilities of the Design Release Engineer:

  • Ensure homogenous design and development for battery modules / packs in close collaborations with cell team and parts suppliers
  • Lead the preparation of 8Ds and other quality / reliability reports to ensure continuous improvements
  • Lead Technical Design Reviews for assigned projects within companies and customers
  • Develop detailed pack/module design based on the RFQ concept
  • Ensure design compliance with internal/customer requirement (cost, mass, and performance)
  • lead the development of the pack/module DFMEA
  • Co-lead the prototype/production issue resolution process with manufacturing team
  • Lead the project specific change management process.
  • Develop the datum and locating scheme for pack/module components
  • Conduct 1D stack-ups and assign tolerances
  • Define critical/significant characteristics for pack/module components.
  • Mentor less experienced DREs and support the PPAP process.
  • Identify opportunities for commonization of components and strategies.


Qualifications of the Design Release Engineer:

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering. Masters preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in automotive product development for powertrain, chassis, or EV/BEV/HEV/PHEV systems.
  • Hands-on experience with CAD tools (Unigraphics or CATIA) and part release process for an automotive Tier 1 company.
  • Understanding of the PPAP process
  • Experience with automotive systems design, packaging and assembly requirements
  • Experience with Quality & Reliability disciplines (FMEA, 8D & APQP) and development process (PLM or PDM)
  • Experience with battery systems, high-voltage (DC) systems or high-current systems is desirable
  • Skilled in articulating specifics on product details
  • Ability to describe development proposals and problem descriptions


Compensation of the Design Release Engineer:
Salary Range:  $75,000-90,000/ year, depending on experience 

Location: Troy, MI
Type:  Direct
Travel: As and when required.
